Football Physical Development

Develop the qualities that support better football.

Sessions are designed around the physical foundations young footballers need to move well, compete confidently and manage the demands of training and matches.

Development first

Youth coaching is not adult training made smaller. Exercise selection, intensity and progression are adjusted to the player’s age, ability, experience and football schedule.

01

Strength Foundations

Build control, stability and general strength through appropriate exercises and good movement technique.

02

Speed & Acceleration

Develop starting positions, first-step speed, acceleration mechanics and efficient movement.

03

Movement Quality

Improve balance, landing, deceleration, direction changes and body control for football.

04

Coordination

Support rhythm, timing, footwork and the ability to organise movement under different demands.

05

Football Conditioning

Build an age-appropriate fitness base to support repeated movement, recovery and match demands.

06

Confidence & Awareness

Help players understand training, improve technique and develop confidence in their physical ability.

Every programme is individual. The balance of strength, speed, movement and conditioning will depend on the player’s needs, current football commitments and stage of development.

How Youth Coaching Works

A clear process for the player and their parent.

Every player starts with a clear understanding of their needs, football commitments and current physical level. Sessions are then planned, coached and progressed around the individual.

01

Parent Consultation

We discuss the player’s goals, football experience, weekly schedule, relevant medical information and what the parent would like support with.

Before training
02

Movement Assessment

The first session reviews basic movement, balance, coordination, strength, acceleration and general training experience.

Starting point
03

Individual Sessions

Training is selected around the player’s age, ability, goals and football timetable, with clear coaching and appropriate progression.

Structured coaching
04

Progress Communication

Parents receive clear updates about the focus of training, how the player is progressing and any recommended next steps.

Parent updates
Parent or guardian involvement is required.

Coaching arrangements, consent, relevant health information and communication are handled through the parent or legal guardian for every player under 18.

Who Youth Coaching Is For

Support for young players at different stages of development.

Players do not need to be academy-level to benefit. Coaching is adapted to the individual, whether they are building basic physical qualities or preparing for more demanding football environments.

01

Grassroots Footballers

Players who want to improve their physical confidence, movement quality, strength and general fitness alongside regular team training.

02

Academy & Development Players

Young footballers who need additional physical preparation to support the demands of more structured or competitive environments.

03

Players Lacking Confidence

Footballers who may feel physically behind their peers and would benefit from patient, individual coaching and clear progression.

04

Returning to Training

Players returning after time away may benefit from rebuilding general fitness and confidence, once medically cleared where necessary.

Safe Coaching Standards

Youth coaching built around safety, trust and clear boundaries.

Parents should understand how coaching is organised, how information is handled and how training is adapted for a young player. Safety and communication come before performance.

DBS Checked Professional background check in place
Safeguarding Training Child safeguarding education completed
Football First Aid First aid education for football environments
Professionally Insured Coaching insurance maintained
01

Parent-Led Communication

The parent or legal guardian remains the primary contact for bookings, consent, payments and important coaching communication.

02

Health Information First

Relevant medical information, injuries, allergies and health considerations must be shared before coaching begins.

03

Technique Before Intensity

Exercises are taught carefully, with movement quality and control prioritised before speed, resistance or higher training loads.

04

Age-Appropriate Training

Session content is adjusted to the player’s age, experience, stage of development and current football schedule.

05

Professional Boundaries

Coaching communication, behaviour and session arrangements are handled professionally, respectfully and transparently.

06

Photo & Video Consent

Images, recordings, testimonials or progress updates involving a young player are never published without appropriate permission.

Verification available: Qualifications, safeguarding training and professional evidence can be provided to parents, clubs or relevant organisations where required. Private certificate numbers and personal identification details are not displayed publicly.

Inside a Coaching Session

A structured session with a clear football purpose.

Session content changes according to the player’s goals, current level and football schedule. A typical session may combine movement preparation, strength, speed and conditioning work.

01

Check-In & Preparation

The session begins with a short check-in covering how the player feels, recent football activity and anything that may affect training.

Readiness Training Load Session Focus
02

Movement Warm-Up

Dynamic movement, coordination, mobility and activation exercises prepare the player for the demands of the session.

Mobility Balance Coordination
03

Speed & Movement Work

Depending on the player’s needs, this may include acceleration, deceleration, landing, direction changes or controlled footwork.

Acceleration Deceleration Movement Control
04

Strength Development

Appropriate strength exercises are coached with a focus on technique, control and gradual progression rather than lifting the heaviest weight possible.

Technique Control Progression
05

Football Conditioning

Short conditioning activities may be included to support fitness, repeated movement and recovery between football actions.

06

Review & Next Steps

The session finishes with a short review of what was coached, how the player responded and what the next training focus may be.

Feedback Understanding Next Steps
Quality matters more than doing everything in one session.

Some sessions may focus mainly on movement and speed, while others place more emphasis on strength or conditioning. Progress is built gradually across multiple sessions.

Parent Questions

Clear answers before your child starts training.

These are some of the questions parents commonly ask before arranging youth football performance coaching.

What ages do you coach?

Youth football performance coaching is currently designed for players aged 12–17. Training is adapted to the player’s age, experience, physical development and football commitments.

Does my child need to play for a club or academy?

No. Coaching can support grassroots, school, development and academy players. The starting point is based on the individual rather than the level or badge of the team they play for.

Where do youth sessions take place?

Sessions take place at an agreed outdoor, park or suitable football training location in Abbey Wood or South East London. The exact location is confirmed with the parent or guardian before a session is arranged.

Does a parent need to attend the session?

The parent or legal guardian remains the main contact and must approve all arrangements. Whether they remain for the full session can be agreed in advance based on the player’s age, location and circumstances.

What should my child bring?

Players should bring suitable training clothes, appropriate footwear for the agreed surface, water and any personal medication they may require. Additional requirements will be confirmed before the session.

What if my child has an injury or medical condition?

Relevant medical information, injuries, allergies and ongoing treatment must be shared before training. Professional medical clearance may be requested where necessary. Performance coaching does not replace medical care or rehabilitation.

Will the training interfere with club sessions or matches?

The player’s football timetable is considered when sessions are planned. Training load and session content are adjusted around matches, team training, school demands and recovery.

Can photos or videos be taken during coaching?

Photos or videos are only used where appropriate permission has been provided by the parent or legal guardian. Nothing involving a young player is published without clear consent.

Still unsure whether the coaching is suitable?

Send a parent or guardian WhatsApp enquiry to discuss the player’s needs, current football commitments and any questions before a session is arranged.

Start With a Conversation

Help your young footballer build stronger physical foundations.

Send a parent or guardian enquiry on WhatsApp to discuss the player’s age, football experience, weekly schedule, goals and whether individual performance coaching is the right fit.

For players under 18: the enquiry and all coaching arrangements must be completed by, or agreed directly with, a parent or legal guardian.
